New Domestic grew out of my typical tasks around the house, assumptions about still life photographs, and a desire to tinker. The staged scenes are composed while completing the work and are lit for dramatic effect. I am challenging the monotony of suburban life, the idea of traditional gendered roles within the home, and what a still life photograph can be. The act of photographing elevates the household chores and projects into dramatized memories.
